Society of Geoscientists and Allied Technologists, aptly termed as SGAT across the country and beyond, is a non-profit making professional body dedicated to promotion of mineral development activities in India. Started in 1980 by a handful but eminent geoscientists of the state of Odisha (formerly Orissa), SGAT has grown manifold by attracting scientists and allied technologists representing disciplines of Geology, Geophysics, Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Environmental Science, Mineral Process Engineering etc. from different parts of India and abroad. Based at Bhubaneswar, the Temple City of Odisha, SGAT, since it came into existence, has been relentlessly championing the cause of credible and eco-friendly mining practices particularly in the country by sensitising the mining professionals, industrialists and allied professionals through dissemination of knowledge and experience by conducting a series of seminars, symposia, workshops and interactive meets of national and international stature on relevant topics of earth science, exploration, mineral development and related activities. SGAT also regularly publishes seminar volumes and bulletins highlighting recent mineral developments and organises awareness programmes on Mining Environment and Mineral Development amongst the school children and University students. SGAT, with its 900 professionals and seven professional bodies as Life Members, is marching ahead aggressively with a vow to establish eco-friendly mining practices in Odisha a credible activity in the eyes of the public. Active participation of its members in assisting the State Government for policy making and formulation of related mineral development programmes adds feathers of SGAT’s promotional ventures.
